Brief description of experience:
The course introduces and examines effective instructional practices for teaching health
education. Content focus emphasizes the coordinated school health program including nutrition,
consumer health, environmental/community health, disease prevention and fitness concepts/wellness.
An integral component of the class will be the design of effective health lessons and implementation
of these plans in the public school setting. Students spend approximately 5 weeks of the semester
in the public schools.
The first two weeks are spent observing classroom practices, observing student
behavior and discussing teaching topics with the supervising teacher. Three weeks are spent teaching
approximately 2-3 x/week for a total of six lessons.
