Leaving Early from Work
All teachers and paraprofessionals must notify the school principal of any situations or circumstances which require an employee to leave the school before 3:30 P.M. Permission to leave work early will only be granted in cases of emergency, illness, or school-related business.
Absences
If sick, teachers or paraprofessional staff members must notify the school principal by 7:00 A.M. Teachers are responsible for contacting a substitute from the approved list and providing lesson plans for the substitute to follow.
Professional Leave
If a teacher or paraprofessional staff member wishes to attend a professional meeting, workshop, conference, etc. which requires him/her to be absent from school, he/she must request permission from the principal and complete a "Professional Leave" Form obtained in the school office.
Dress Code
Teachers and paraprofessional staff members are professionals and are expected to dress accordingly. Specific questions concerning appropriate and inappropriate dress can be checked in the Emanuel County Policy Handbook which is housed in the school's Media Center.
Supervision of Students
Students are to be properly supervised at all times. Students are not to be left unattended in the classroom at any time. Teachers are responsible for supervising their students at recess times.
Child Abuse
As educators, each of us is a mandatory reporter of any suspected child abuse (including sexual). Even in cases when physical evidence is lacking, state law requires that you report any suspicion to the school principal or school counselor.
Employee Mailboxes
Each employee has been assigned a mailbox. These boxes are located in the Main Office. Employees are encouraged to check their mailboxes upon arrival at school each morning, at lunch, and at the end of the school day.
School Phones
School phones are to be used for school business only. Personal long distance calls are not to be charged to the school. All school business long distance calls are to be logged. For incoming calls, messages will be taken and placed in the employee's mailbox. Teachers and paraprofessional staff members will not be called away from their classrooms for phone calls, except in the case of an emergency.
Care of School Facilities
This is your school and should be treated like your home. Take an active part in helping keep our facility clean, safe, and attractive for our students, parents, and visitors. *Teachers are asked to make sure all their classroom windows are closed, lights and air conditioners are turned off, and doors locked before leaving each day.
Student Attendance
Regular school attendance is mandated by law. Any student missing more than twenty (20) days of school during a school year may be retained.
Students Leaving School
Students are not permitted to leave the school campus during school hours without the permission of a parent or legal guardian. The principal, assistant principal, or school secretary must be notified of any restrictions concerning who is or is not allowed to pick up his/her child from school.
Emergencies
Parents are required to provide the school with an emergency telephone number. The school must know where parents work, how to reach them, and whom to contact in the case of an emergency. In the case of any of this information changing, the parent should immediately report these changes to the school.
Medication/Medicine
Medicine and medication will be given only to students whose parent(s) have provided the school with written permission to administer it and the proper or correct dosage to be given. Parents are required to notify the child's teacher or the school counselor of any changes in the medication and/or the dosage.
NOTE: Aspirin will not be given to any student.
Corporal Punishment
Corporal punishment (paddling) will be used ONLY as a last resort; however, corporal punishment may be employed as a first line on punishment for those acts of misconduct which are so antisocial or disruptive in nature as to shock the conscience. Corporal punishment will not be administered to a student whose parent(s) or legal guardian(s) submit a written request that their child not be paddled.
School Guests and Visitors
Parents, guests, and visitors are always welcome at Twin City Elementary. The school administration does ask that you first come by the School Office - located at the front entrance of the school, and sign-in before going to your destination. For the security and safety of your children, your assistance and cooperation with this procedure will be greatly appreciated.
